Canada’s Disability Inclusion Action Plan, 2022

This plan outlines 4 pillars of inclusion for Canada’s disability community as well as specific actions the government will undertake to combat the marginalization, discrimination and exclusion of people with disabilities in Canada.

AccessibleBC: B.C.’s Accessibility Plan for 2022/23 to 2024/25

Describes the Accessible British Columbia Act and steps being taken toward the inclusion of the disability community in BC. It lays out obligations of public organizations to implement accessibility plans and means for feedback. A plain language summary of the Act can be found here.

The National Educational Association of Disabled Students (NEADS)

NEADS is a consumer organization with a mandate to encourage the self-empowerment of post-secondary students with disabilities. They provide resources, research, and advocacy information that can help institutions better support accessibility.

Accessibility Principles

 This resource outlines key accessibility requirements for online content and introduces the POUR principles (Perceivable, Operable, Understandable and Robust), which help with the design of online spaces where content can be accessed by all internet users. Students Explain Digital Accessibility

This site contains a series of articles and videos on digital accessibility from the perspective of students with disabilities. This series spotlights students with different access needs who explain why good web accessibility practices matter to them.

Accessibility at UBC

The UBC Centre for Accessibility (CFA)

UBC’s CfA facilitates disability-related accommodations and programming initiatives designed to remove barriers for students with disabilities and ongoing medical conditions in all aspects of university life. If there are learners in your course of program whom you feel could benefit from accommodation, feel free to refer them to the CFA.
